Kevin Hart is White

Last night I watched the Kevin Hart movie “About Last Night”. Like most Kevin Hart movies, the joint was funny. There were some good punchlines and the movie overall was just a smooth piece of work. Everyone is wondering how this relates to the title of my post. Well let me explain (get it , that was a title to one of Kevin Hart’s standup pieces ….? I know; I am clever)

There is one seen where Kevin Hart’s Character  Bernie , is racing Danny ( Michael Ealy ) in the swimming pool. Bernie is the first to reach the other side of the pool and as the race to the finish comes to an end, conversation ensues. It would seem to be a scene that is not that notable, besides the crude conversation and humor, but you have two black men swimming for sport! In the water swimming according to  their own volition. Why does this matter. BECAUSE BLACK MEN SWIM!!!!!! we play golf, we enjoy tennis, hiking, some like camping and fishing. It’s not a white thing or black thing , its a thing for whoever decides to enjoy it. At times, it almost would seem if some sort of recreational segregation exist, excluding those who have more melanin from participating or from being perceived as interested in things outside of basketball and dominoes.

The typical perception of Black men needs to change. A true post racial america wont see Kevin Hart swimming as white , but rather as a man interested in nautical activities. and oh yeah, he’s black. The media plays a strong part in typecasting african men. The viewpoint of who we are  falls victim to ABC or McDonald commercials will paint us as they see fit.  Kudos Kevin to your contribution to change. I’ll be front and center for the next flick june 2oth.

Peace.
